                                          Research area: High tech medicine

                                          Project leaders: Claudia Wild

                                          Duration: January 2009 - April 2009

                                          Objective:
Each year, the Austrian Ministry of Health, Family and Youth receives suggestions for numerous new medical interventions to get reimbursed. The aim of this project is to evaluate the efficacy and safety of interventions, suggested to be included into the MEL (German for: individual medical services) catalogue. Themes (interventions) were prioritized by the Ministry of Health and contracted out to the LBI-HTA.

                                          Method:
The assessments are based on systematic reviews for each intervention and a summary of the scientific evidence according to the GRADE scheme. For the very first time, there is a cooperation with the german NUB process, which also appraises with the same method for both countries relevant new medical interventions at the same time.

                                          MEL- Interventions 2009:

Chemo-nucleolysis and intradiscal electrotherapy (IDET)Percutaneous injection therapies and radiofrequency techniques for the treatment of chronic back painIntraoperative radiotherapy for breast cancerDrug coated balloon cathetersSelective IgG Apheresis for ABO-incompatible kidney transplantationImage guided radiation therapy using cone-beam computed tomographyPumpless extracorporeal lung assist (PECLA) Percutaneous nucleotomy and percutaneous laser disc decompressionRetroluminal transobturatoric reposition sling for the treatment of stress urinary incontinence in men
