History
Towards the foundation of the institute
The Austrian Institute for Health Technology Assessment (AIHTA) was founded in March 2020 as the direct successor of the Ludwig Boltzmann Institute for Health Technology Assessment (LBI-HTA). The LBI-HTA was active for a total of 14 years (2006-2020) and, thanks to its extensive scientific output and its strong focus on applicable short- and medium-term results, was quickly able to establish itself as an internationally recognized institution for HTA. In addition to the Federal Ministry for Social Affairs, Health, Care and Consumer Protection (BMSGPK), the shareholders of AIHTA are the Umbrella Association of Austrian Social Insurance Institutions (DVB) and the Health Funds of the Austrian Federal Provinces. Together with the Ludwig Boltzmann Society, they decided to continue the important and successful work of the LBI-HTA after its maximum duration.
