Evaluation of individual medical procedures - MEL 2013

Project leaders: Claudia Wild
Marisa Warmuth
Project co-operation: LBI-HTA staff for individual reviews
Duration: November 2012 - April 2013
Suggested by: BMG
Objective:
Each year, the Austrian Ministry of Health receives suggestions for numerous new medical interventions to get reimbursed. The aim of this project is to evaluate the efficacy and safety of interventions, suggested to be included into the MEL (German for: individual medical services) catalogue. Themes (interventions) were prioritized by the Ministry of Health and contracted out to the LBI-HTA.
Method:
The assessments are based on systematic reviews for each intervention and a summary of the scientific evidence according to the GRADE scheme. For the second time, there is a cooperation with the german NUB process, which also appraises with the same method for both countries relevant new medical interventions at the same time.
