Clavicular fractures - A systematic review about efficacy and safety of different treatment options

Clavicular fractures are common injuries and represent 10-15% of fractures in adults and 20-25% of fractures in children. Midshaft fractures account for approximately 80% of all clavicular fractures. Conservative treatment  with sling or figure-of-eight bandage is generally acknowledged. Alternatively, there are operative treatment procedures available. However, the optimal treatment option for the various fracture types remains controversial. The objective of our HTA-report is to summarize and compare study results to provide more conclusive evidence for optimal therapy planning.

Methods: Systematic review of efficacy and safety of different treatment options for the management of clavicular fractures in consideration of fracture type and other parameters and, if possible on the basis of available evidence, to compile a clinically practicable algorithm.
