Improving the Use of HTA in Decision-Making in Latvia
Project leaders: Claudia Wild
Project team: Claudia Wild
Duration: October 2022 – September 2024
In January 2022, the EU regulation on the EU-wide joint assessment of health technologies (Health Technology Assessment Regulation, HTAR, https://eur-lex.europa.eu/legal-content/EN/TXT/PDF/?uri=OJ:L:2021:458:FULL&from=EN) was adopted. It will be legally binding in January 2025 - after a transition period of 3 years. Against this background, DG REFORM is funding projects to build the structured and systematic introduction of HTA in countries.
The project is coordinated by Ernest & Young (EY). Austria is considered a model country (best practice) with its systematic and transparent HTA process and with the method for maintaining the Austrian hospital service catalogue, especially for all high-risk procedures and medical devices. The role of AIHTA in this project is to contribute the Austrian experience in the evaluation of non-pharmaceutical interventions as well as the EUnetHTA methods (in the form of review and workshops) and to make them usable for Latvia.
