Endometriosis is a chronic, benign condition in which endometrium-like tissue settles outside the uterus. It is estimated to affect 10–15% of people of reproductive age.

The AIHTA report shows that medical care in Vienna largely follows international guideline recommendations. However, the average time to diagnosis is 9.7 years, and only 28.3% of patients had been referred to a certified endometriosis centre. The report recommends a structured, tiered care pathway, clear referral criteria, targeted training, greater interdisciplinary collaboration, quality monitoring and accessible patient information.
