Individual Medical Procedures (in German “Medizinische Einzelleistungen, MEL”) are medical interventions reimbursed under the catalogue of services maintained by the Ministry of Health (BMASGPK). They include surgical procedures, non-surgical treatments and diagnostic investigations provided during a hospital stay. New medical interventions may be proposed to the MoH for inclusion in the catalogue of services.
The AIHTA is responsible for systematically assessing the comparative effectiveness and safety of these new interventions. Topics are prioritised by a working group of the Federal Health Agency, comprising representatives of the Ministry (BMASGPK), the States (Bundesländer) and the social insurance institutions. The assessment is based on systematic reviews and a presentation of the evidence according to the GRADE framework.
All MEL reports published to date can be found under the program line Evaluation of Individual Medical Services.
