In 2024, the Appraisal Board ("Bewertungsboard") was established in Austria. This interdisciplinary body is responsible for issuing recommendations, based on scientific evidence, on the use of selected high-cost and specialised medicines in the inpatient sector or at the interface between outpatient and inpatient care.

The AIHTA supports the work of the Appraisal Board’s Secretariat within theFederal Ministry of Labour, Social Affairs, Health, Care and Consumer Protection (BMASGPK), including the prioritisation of medicinal products for review by the Assessment Board and the development of a database of clinical experts from a range of medical specialties. A central component of this work is the preparation of comprehensive HTA reports. In 2026, work will also be carried out on the methodological handbook.

All AIHTA reports published to date for the Appraisal Board can be found under the program line Decision Support Documents for the Austrian Appraisal Board.
